Highlight Reel
It's the end of this God forsaken year (or the end of times, maybe. I don't know, maybe we kind of deserved a plague. I certainly question the morality of our world a lot and it feels like we're on a precipice. Maybe God's fed up, too).
Damnit, 2020.
You got us all twisted up and bowled over and just in general like What. The. F.
To be real honest, though.
I kind of liked 2020.
Not the quarantining or distancing. Not the deaths or losses. Not the masks or the shutdowns. And CERTAINLY not the socialist previews or the election.
But the perspective. The slower pace. The extra time. The lessons. The revelations.
We all had to dig a little deeper and find our true colors (I'm delighted to share that mine are as vintage red, white, and blue as I always suspected).
We were all tested, brought to our knees in different ways. Things like that change you, whether you like it or not and they force you to take a hard look at what your priorities are.
The highlight reel in my brain for 2020 is a mess, but in the end, for me, it's simple.
Faith. God and I had our moments this year. I've been pretty pissed (I imagine he's felt the same) and I've been pretty grateful. But I just can't do it without him. I can't imagine how you go forward without just throwing it all on him.
Family. It's easy to get distracted and off course. You lose your focus and forget your "why". In the most cliché way and so much more, these people are mine.Country. That's a tough one, this year. If you're a constitutionalist with a patriot-heart who believes in the spirit of the original America of 1776, you took a bit of an ass-kicking this year (luckily the Twisted Tea guy fought back). Nothing makes sense. Like I said, it feels like we're on the precipice of something big. For me, you tow the line where you can, stand up and don't back down where you need to, and most of all circle back to faith, because when it's your time, it's all you have and all you need, anyway.
2021?
Let's see what you got.
