So I've often heard this story as an outsider.

I may miss some of the pertinent details, but I still think it's a pretty neat story.

40-ish years ago Brad's dad was semi-new at beginning his own independent farming operation. Around that time, a group of guys from Minnesota made a random trip to Iowa, knocked on the door, and asked if they could hunt his ground. Greg, being the extremely good natured guy that he is, agreed.

And every year since, this group, and now their sons, and grandsons, have come down and hunted their ground.

This weekend was the weekend they made the trip down and I forgot how much fun it is, even with Covid, and even though I don't even hunt. My kids were enthralled with all of them, with the process of cleaning the birds, with the dogs! It was such a good time.

This group, particularly the "sons" who are mine and Brad's age(ish), usually bring some friends with. Sometimes, although not always, the same ones. Some lifers, some occasional attendees, and some new. And they are always just good people.

This year, one of the sons, who has only ever been able to come one other time because he coaches hockey which is a conflict with this time of year, brought a friend.

A friend who happens to be the coach of the Detroit Redwings.

To thank Brad for letting them hunt his land, Luke, one of the sons, and the one closest to Brad's age that he talks with the most, helped arrange for Jeff (the coach) to surprise Brad with an authentic team issue jersey with his old racing number on it.

So cool!

Not to get all soapbox-y, because I really tend to, but these are the things that should not be put on hold in life. These are the things that can not wait because today, tomorrow, next week, or next year are not promised. To any of us. Live the life you have, now. Enjoy the life you have, now with the people who bring you joy. With the people who give it meaning and purpose.

Okay that was pretty soapbox-y, sorry.
