Throw me a bone here..
There is a gentleman that once pulled me out of the ditch. And when I say “in the ditch”, I mean my running board got hung up on the side of the gravel road when I was trying to do a 3 point turn. In June. When I was nine months pregnant. This gentleman also has a son that is in Piper’s Kindergarten class. While I was at open house Monday night (with all three of my children), I was intently reading the “Back to School for Dummies: Parents Edition” instructions on where to put all their supplies, etc. and fastidiously completing those tasks and lost sight/track of Parker. This same gentleman must have seen the panicked/classic “lost child look” in my eye, and smiled, and pointed behind the kids kitchen play set, where Parker was cooking up a storm. He thinks I’m a hot mess. Or special. I know it. I’m very certain he thought to himself, "Get your shit together, lady."
At any rate, Piper had her first couple days of school. And loved it! After 2 days of in-depth questioning, these are the things I’ve surmised and pried out of her (and not easily, I might add. Nothing happened? You remember nothing??)
There are two teachers in her class. Mrs. Grantham and Tom.
“Tom?”
“Yes, Tom”
“Is Tom a boy or a girl?”
“A girl. Thomas.”
Otherwise known as Mrs. Thompson, apparently, after doing some research, and to those of you that are actually familiar with the staff.
Also, for lunch, she had chips, pickles, and a napkin. Now I know Mrs. Obama is getting strict on school lunches, but for serious? I realize they fed her more than that and I’m relatively confident she didn’t eat her napkin, but what’s most disturbing to me, is that this is what she remembers, and enjoyed most about the day. What a little weirdo.
She sits next to Sophie on the bus and Chuck drove the bus the first day. Not our Chuck (Nattress), A different Chuck.
"Who drove the bus today, Pipe?"
"Uhll." (Earl)
"So did Earl say anything to you today?"
"Yeah he gave me a big hug and said, 'Bye Piper!' and I said, 'Bye Uhll!' Mom, I know Uhll."
I then asked her what Mrs. Grantham had to say today, to which she replied with a completely annoyed expression on her face, "Mom. I'm making friends, stop worrying about it!"
So I said, "Oh you are? What are their names?"
"Mom, I said we are done talking about it."
I'm not so concerned about police officers wearing body cams, its the kindergartner class that we need to be tapping into. These are the "going ons" that I NEED to be in the know on!
