Rough Night...Tough Gal

Well so much for riding out this flu. Mom called me about 4:00 and said that Piper was pretty sick and wanted to know if I could call and see if Dr. Gyano could prescribe something. I told her there really isn't anything she could take orally, but I called the office to see what they thought. Dr Gyano called me back and said to just bring her in to the ER to be evaluated.

I picked her up at mom's and brought her in. Brad laid her on the table and she just laid there..didn't move or even try to. After 3 tries, they successfully drew her blood out of her left foot. Kay got her IV on the first try though in her right hand. Her labs  came back and her blood sugar was low at 51. They gave her some zofran an some IV normal saline. Then they had her eat a little bit of Popsicle while the fluids were running. About 15 minutes later they checked her blood sugar again and it was still 51. Dr. Gyano decided to keep her over night for observation and to run IV fluids with glucose. They are checking her blood sugar every hour for awhile to make sure it's coming up. When we first got to the room it was 49 but the last one was 69 so it's doing better.

She's fast asleep now. Didn't even flinch when they checked her blood sugar. Slept right through it. Hopefully she'll stay asleep. She needs the rest and so does this mama.

I can't even describe how unlike herself she's been. That's what's the saddest. She's been so listless and lethargic. She just lays in my arms and whimpers occasionally, but she did so good through all of it. Almost makes it hurt more that she was so tough. Makes me feel bad, but I know it will all make her feel better.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers..

Always,
Em and Pipes
